Enpirion
Enpirion Inc., founded as a private analog semiconductor company, specializes in integrated power management solutions. Headquartered in Hampton, New Jersey, Enpirion has established itself as a leading supplier in the industry, particularly known for its Power System-on-Chip (PowerSoC) products. These products integrate power management components into a single chip, which helps in simplifying design, reducing footprint, and enhancing the efficiency of power delivery in electronic systems.
On May 15, 2013, Altera Corporation, a major player in the field of programmable logic devices such as Field-Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs), announced the acquisition of Enpirion. This strategic move was aimed at combining Altera's FPGA technology with Enpirion's advanced PowerSoC solutions. The integration of these technologies provides significant benefits to customers, including enhanced performance, reduced overall system power consumption, improved reliability, minimized product size, and accelerated time-to-market for their products.
The acquisition allowed Altera (now part of Intel following its acquisition in 2015) to offer more comprehensive system solutions to its customers, integrating both the processing capabilities of FPGAs and the efficient power management provided by Enpirion’s technology. This combination is particularly valuable in applications where space and power efficiency are critical, such as in portable devices, telecommunications infrastructure, and automotive systems.
