Spansion/Cypress Semiconductor
Spansion Inc., now known as Cypress Semiconductor, is a renowned name in the semiconductor industry. Established in Sunnyvale, California in 2005 as a joint venture between AMD and Fujitsu, the company was initially known as FASL LLC, before being rebranded to Spansion in 2005. In 2014, Spansion merged with Cypress Semiconductor, another leader in the semiconductor industry to leverage both companies' strong points and bolster their product offerings. The newly merged company retained the name Cypress Semiconductor.
Known for producing a wide range of semiconductor technology, Cypress's product portfolio includes NOR flash memories, F-RAM and SRAM Traveo microcontrollers to name a few. These are highly sought after for their unique characteristics such as high-speed random access of read, write, and erase functions, or the capacity for endurance of 100 trillion read/write cycles. The technology has found wide application in sectors such as automotive electronics, industrial applications, and consumer appliances.
