chip exports decline and chipmaker loses money

With the release of the U.S. Chip and Science Act, the tension between China and the United States has further escalated. Taiwan's semiconductor chip exports to China fell for the fourth consecutive month in February this year, amid a decline in demand for electronic products.

According to Bloomberg, data from Taiwan’s Ministry of Finance showed that Taiwan’s semiconductor chip exports to mainland China fell by 31.3% from the same period. It surpassed the 27.1% in January this year, which has not been seen in ten years. This is the most serious decline since 2009. Last month, the total amount of semiconductors shipped from Taiwan to the world decreased by 17.3% compared with a year ago. However, due to the impact of the US government’s Chip and Science Act and political factors, the US government’s support for the chip semiconductor industry and the demand for semiconductor chips have increased. . Taiwan's semiconductor chip exports to the U.S. jump to 22.3%

According to Yonhap Sejong, according to data from the Korean Statistics Office, South Korea's chip inventory rate in January this year was 265.7%, the highest in 26 years since March 1997. The inventory ratio is the percentage obtained by dividing the seasonal factor inventory index by the shipment index, indicating the ratio of shipments to inventories. The chip shipment index (excluding seasonal factors) in January was 71.7, a month-on-month decrease of 25.8%. During the same period, the inventory index rose 28% month-on-month to 190.5. A high chip inventory rate means that supply exceeds demand. Exports of semiconductors, South Korea's main export, fell 42.5 percent last month amid slumping demand and lower chip prices. Given that chips are South Korea's main export product, South Korea's export and economic prospects are worrying.

Due to the turmoil in the international environment in recent years, the unstable factors in the global environment, and the increase in inflation, people's shopping needs have generally declined, and the decline in demand for consumer electronics has led to a decrease in demand for memory chips. Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, two Korean memory chips, have been greatly affected. SK Hynix had an operating loss as early as the fourth quarter of last year, which led to a 45% year-on-year decline in annual turnover.

In the third quarter of last year, the operating profit of SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics fell 60% year-on-year and 61% month-on-month, while the latter fell 27% year-on-year and 28% month-on-month. It deteriorated further in the fourth quarter. SK Hynix sees loss, Samsung Electronics revenue falls further
